WHAT'S GOIN' ON

May 26, 2008
René Angélil and Celine Dion Together at the Grevin

Thursday, May 22, 2008 - a day filled with emotion for Céline Dion and René Angélil.

Late afternoon, after receiving the 'Légion d'Honneur', the highest French decoration, from President Nicolas Sarkozy, Céline and René with their son René-Charles, their family and friends, went to the Grévin Museum to discover their waxwork images.

The ceremony was presented by Laurent Artufel and included a welcome speech by Béatrice de Reyniès, Managing Director of the Grévin, a display of pictures celebrating the life of Céline and René and an address by Luc Plamondon, the famous lyricist, who paid homage in glowing terms to René's contribution to their long-standing artistic cooperation. He praised René's great talent, his loyalty and his generosity: a "good man" worthy of the philosopher Pascal's definition in the 17th century.

The statues were unveiled to the accompaniment of Luc Plamondon's song, 'L'amour existe encore'. The uncanny likeness of the waxworks sculpted by the artist Claus Velte brought tears of emotion to Céline's eyes. René was very impressed by the quality and accuracy of the work and congratulated all the artists who had made a contribution.

Today, this legendary couple from the world of entertainment stands united in the Grévin, evidence indeed that loves does exist. Their son, René-Charles, armed with his own camera, joined the press photographers in commemorating for eternity their presence in the Grévin, under the auspices of talent, family, and love.
