Celine takes part in Relay for Life!

Celine and her family took part in The Canadian Cancer Society's 'Relay for Life' (in French only) last Friday June 19 in Repentigny, Quebec. Celine, whose father succumbed to cancer six years ago, also sponsored a ceremonial release of doves as a symbol of peace and hope. The event collected an astounding $305,000 for cancer research. Celine's Statement Concerning Michael Jackson's Death

"I am so devastated by this terrible news. From the beginning of my career, he was my idol in show business. He was a genius and an incredible artist!! I remember when I was growing up and watching him on TV, and all his videos... I had his poster on my wall... he was so amazing... his singing, his writing, his dancing. We had the same record company, and they knew I was a huge fan, so when things started to happen for me, they arranged for us to meet. I was so nervous, and so excited at the same time, and Michael was so nice. He autographed one of his hats for me.... I was so thrilled. Years later, he came to see my Las Vegas show and we spent some time together... and we were really looking forward to seeing his show in London. It's unbelievable that he's no longer with us. It still hasn't sunk in. I guess we're just finding out what happened, but all I can say is that he must have been under an enormous amount of pressure... to do the shows, and to keep on top of everything, plus this was going to be his big comeback. This is a lot of pressure and it can be overwhelming for anyone. I'm sure it was just too much to handle. Right now, along with millions and millions of others I am so sad... and I just want to send my prayers and love to Michael's family. I can't imagine how difficult this is for them... to lose someone so special. And it's the same for everyone in the world who loses a loved one. It just keeps reminding us of how precious life is, and that we never know when it's our time. God Bless his soul.

Today is Celine's sister, Linda Dion's birthday. Linda and Celine are very close. She was 10 years old when Celine was born and remembers what Celine was like as a child. On this day, in 1981, Celine made her first television appearance on the Michel Jasmin show in Quebec. René, who was extremely anxious for Celine's first television appearance, tried to give her some pointers on how to answer the questions for the interview that followed her performance. As a result, in all of the commotion, he accidentally instructed Celine to tell Michel Jasmin that she was from Repentigny instead of Charlemagne!

As part of the celebrations for the 175th anniversary of Quebec's annual "Fête Nationale," Quebecers are invited to vote for their ten favourite songs from a selection of 175 songs. Among this list are two of Celine's most famous francophone tracks: "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" and "L'amour existe encore". The ten chosen songs will be performed on stage at the Quebec City and Montreal festivities by the artists attending each event! Make sure to cast your vote (in French only) before June 21.

'Yahoo! Music Chart Watch Extra' reports that Celine is among the Top 20 Album Sellers of the 2000s!. According to Neilsen/Soundscan sales numbers, Celine has sold a total of 17,579,000 albums since the first week of January 2000, making her only the second solo female artist featured on this chart. Congratulations Celine!

René Appointed to the National Order of Quebec

Celine's husband, René Angélil will be joining her in the ranks as an Officer of the National Order of Quebec (in French only)! René is set to receive the prestigious title on June 17 during a special ceremony at the 'Hôtel du Parlement' in Quebec City. Celine was honoured with this distinction in 1998. Congratulations!
