 | | Dion chante Plamondon1991 Luc Plamondon is the foremost pop lyricist of French-speaking Canada. Born in 1942 in rural Quebec and raised on a family farm, he attended universities in Montreal, Paris, Cambridge, and Berlin and was headed for a successful career in teaching or journalism. But in the mid-'60s, Plamondon was swept up by the worldwide revolution in popular music and began writing songs that combined the energy of Anglo-American rock with the romantic expression of French Quebec.
Luc Plamondon wrote a series of highly successful albums for Quebec song-stress Diane Dufresne, and later composed material for such leading European artists as Johnny Hallyday, Françoise Hardy, and Petula Clark. In 1978, he collaborated with French composer Michel Berger to create the rock opera called 'Starmania.' The show has since enjoyed several long-running productions in Canada, France, and even Moscow; in 1992, a German-language 'Starmania' played for six months in Essen.
On 'Dion chante Plamondon,' Celine Dion interprets the lyrics of Luc Plamondon, pop lyricist of French-speaking Canada.
That same year, 14 songs from 'Starmania' were recorded by an international cast of star singers with English lyrics by Tim Rice. The new collection was entitled "Tycoon," and included performances by Celine Dion, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Tom Jones, Ronnie Spector, and Nina Hagen.
Luc Plamondon holds an honourary Doctor of Letters from the University of Laval in Quebec, and was honoured in France with the Prime Minister's Prize. In 1993, he received Canada's prestigious Felix Award for his staging of a one-woman show by the actress and singer Louise Forestier. Tracklisting - Des mots qui sonnent
