On Sunday, June 2, Céline will be part of Z100’s ZOOTOPIA 2002 concert. The all-star line-up includes: Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi, Craig David, Goo Goo Dolls, Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige, Michelle Branch, Nick & Aaron Carter, P. Diddy, Pink and Shakira. The show takes place at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.
Céline was inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame in December of 1999. She became the third member in the category that honours Canadian music celebrities. Canadian artists are recognized for “outstanding talent and commitment, for enhancing Canadian culture and for enriching the lives of Canadians through private radio” said the Canadian Association of Broadcasters.
Céline will participate in radio station KISS 108’s concert on Saturday, June 1, at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA. The show will benefit The Genesis Fund, a non-profit organization that provides funding for specialized care and treatment for children born with genetic diseases, birth defects and mental retardation. Other performers include Aaron & Nick Carter, Alicia Keys, Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morissette, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, The Calling, Craig David, Michelle Branch and No Doubt. After their 1994 wedding, Céline and René retreated to their Palm Beach, FL home to relax and take a break. Meanwhile, an opportunity came up for Céline to appear on the popular British variety show ‘Top of the Pops.’ She was to perform her song “Think Twice,” which was climbing the charts at the time. It was such a spectacular opportunity to be near her British fans that Céline decided to interrupt her honeymoon and fly to London. Soon after her appearance, “Think Twice” was at the top of the charts and has remained a favourite in the UK.
Céline will take part in the CBS special ‘A National Salute to the US Military’ airing on Saturday, May 25 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The program is in honour of troops returning home from Afghanistan. The show takes place aboard the USS Harry S. Truman, the largest nuclear aircraft carrier in the world, and is hosted by Cuba Gooding Jr. Other performers include Clint Black, Lonestar, Jessica Simpson and Jeff Foxworthy.
In a special ceremony in December of 1999, Céline and René were presented with the key to the city of Montréal, PQ by Mayor Pierre Bourque. He praised them for their great success and for the loving image that they project to the world. The Mayor also unveiled a plant sculpture honouring Céline.
“A New Day Has Come” has been nominated for the MuchMoreMusic Award at the 2002 MuchMusic Video Awards. The show will be broadcast live on MuchMusic on Sunday, June 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
