On this day in 1999, Céline performed for a record 90,000 people at the renowned Stade de France in Paris, the last of a two night engagement. On this day in 1981, Céline made her very first television appearance. She performed on what was at the time a popular Quebec talk show, hosted by Michel Jasmin. Céline was quite nervous prior to the taping, but a few notes into “Ce n’était qu’un rêve,” and already she felt at ease. It was the beginning of what has proven to be a long and successful career on stage and in front of television cameras.
Céline and several other artists are featured on “Behind The Music Anniversary Special” broadcast on Tuesday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m. ET on VH1. The program, hosted by Kathy Griffin, takes a look at the show’s first three years on the air, and the most unforgettable stories.
In 1994, Nickels Restaurants organized a charity event to donate one dollar from every smoked meat sandwich sold for an entire day to l’Association québécoise de la fibrose kystique (Quebec Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). They raised $10,000, and Sony Music doubled the amount by donating an additional $10,000 for the cause. Céline made appearances at five of the chain’s outlets in the Montreal, PQ area on that day. On June 23 at 7:00 p.m. ET, TVA will rebroadcast their special episode of “Le grand blond avec un show sournois,” which was devoted entirely to Céline. Céline joins special guests Bryan Adams and Jann Arden on the 1998 concert video, “An Intimate Evening with Anne Murray.” Anne and Céline sing “When I Fall In Love” together, a song which was included on Anne’s 1993 album ‘Croonin.’ Céline also sang this song with Clive Griffin for the movie soundtrack to “Sleepless in Seattle,” and it appears on her 1993 album ‘The Colour of My Love.’
Céline will appear on the popular entertainment show Latin Vibes on Saturday, June 22 at 2:30 p.m. ET on Channel 47 CFMT. The program, hosted by Gisel Della Chiara, features interviews with Latin entertainers and other artists who have entered the Latin music scene. The show will also air on Friday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET on Channel 47 CFMT.
Today is René’s daughter, Anne-Marie’s birthday. She is married to comedian Marc Dupré and last August she gave birth to their first child, a little boy named Anthony.
In September of 1983, Céline performed at the inauguration of the Théâtre Félix-Leclerc, named after the famous poet and singer who was one of the first Québécois artists to become successful in France. The now late Félix Leclerc attended the event, and Céline honoured him by singing his famous song “Bozo.
