On This Day...

Céline's father Adhémar Dion would have been 92 years old today.
Here are her words to him as they appear in the 'Miracle' album booklet, which was released one year after his death:
''Papa, our world is filled with your memories, your laughter, and your music. Your essence is still in the air that I breath, and I see your eyes every day, in my son’s bluer-than-blue ones. We so very much love you.''

Celine and Oscar

The 83rd Academy Awards, which took place on February 27, 2011, marked Celine's 7th performance on the Oscar stage. She sang Charlie Chaplin's "Smile” during the In Memoriam tribute, which honours distinguished members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who passed away during the previous year. That evening, Celine said "It is always a great honour to be here. Performing a song at the Oscars is unforgettable.”

Through the years, Celine also performed "Beauty and the Beast" with Peabo Bryson (1992), "Because You Loved Me" and, as a last minute replacement for Barbra Streisand, the song “I Finally Found Someone” (1997), "My Heart Will Go On" (1998), "The Prayer" a duet with Andrea Bocelli (1999) and "I Knew I Loved You" an homage to famous Italian composer Ennio Morricone (2007).

The Power of Love

When "The Power of Love" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 12th 1994, it became Celine's first hit single in the United States. "The Power of Love" was composed by Jennifer Rush and Mary Susan Applegate and was first recorded by Air Supply who entitled the song "The Power of Love (You Are My Lady)". Before it's initial release by Air Supply, German producers Gunter Mende and Candy DeRouge urged Jennifer Rush to record her own version, which would be released in June 1985, one month prior to Air Supply's version. Rush's version became an enormous success becoming a #1 hit in many European countries as well as in Canada and Australia. In the early 90s, CBS (Sony) asked David Foster to produce a new version of the song. Foster instantly thought of Celine and proposed a new musical arrangement focusing on the strength of Celine's voice with minimal instrumentals (keyboard and guitar). After 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the song hit #1 and stayed there for 4 weeks. "The Power of Love" remained Celine's signature song until the release of "My Heart Will Go On" and she continues to sing it in every concert she performs.

Ken Ehrlich: a long-time collaborator

Director Ken Ehrlich, producer of the Grammys for over 30 years as well as countless television music specials, was honoured this past Wednesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Having been an important collaborator over the years, Ken Ehrlich most recently directed Celine's latest show in Las Vegas.

Their first collaboration dates back to February 1993, when Celine sang "Beauty and the Beast" as a duet with Peabo Bryson at the Grammy Awards. Over the years, Ken produced every CBS special starring Celine (These are Special Times in 1998, All the Way....A Decade of Songs in 1999, A New Day Has Come in 2002, Celine in Las Vegas...Opening Night Live in 2003, and That's Just the Woman in Me in 2008). Their collaboration continued when Celine was the first to accept his invitation to take part in the first VH1 Divas concert in 1998.

In an interview in 2003, Ken recalled that the Michael Jackson Tribute at the 2010 Grammys probably would not have happened without Celine's participation and that she brought him close to tears when she sang ''Dance With My Father'' the year her father passed away.

Celine on The Tonight Show, 1991

On January 29, 1991, Céline made her 3rd appearance in 4 months on The Tonight Show, which helped propel her song "Where Does my Heart Beat Now” to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. In 2009, René said, "Since the beginning, we have had a special friendship with Debbie Vickers, who eventually became producer and director of The Tonight Show. Jay Leno was the first to believe in Céline. We owe much to them for their support.”

Céline and Stevie Wonder

On January 22, 1977, the legendary Stevie Wonder reached #1 on the Billboard chart with his song "I Wish," the first single released from his multi-platinum album “Songs in the Key of Life." In 2003 Céline performed "I Wish” in her show "A New Day". Her interpretation is included on the album 'A New Day...Live in Las Vegas.'

With her new show in Las Vegas in 2011, Céline sang the song “Overjoyed” as a duet with a virtual Stevie Wonder seated at the piano. They later recorded this previously unreleased song for her 2013 album 'Loved Me Back to Life'. Céline has always admired Stevie Wonder, so it was with great honor that she recorded one of his songs.

Céline had the great privilege of meeting this celebrated musician at various award ceremonies and benefit concerts, such as "Pavarotti and Friends" in June 1998 or the "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon in September 2001.

The Power of Love

The Power of Love (You are my lady)».

A Decade of Songs en 1999, A New Day Has Come en 2002, Celine in Las Vegas... Opening Night Live en 2003 ainsi que That's Just the Woman in Me en 2008).

Celine Puts Show Business Career On Hold For Her Health And Family Reasons

Montreal, August 13th - Celine Dion has decided to postpone all of her show business activities indefinitely, in order to focus 100% of her attention on her husband Rene, their family, and associated health issues. Since Rene's surgery last December to remove a cancerous tumor, it's been a very difficult and stressful time for the couple as they deal with the day-to-day challenges of fighting this disease while trying to juggle a very active show business schedule, and raise their three young children.

Celine has also been fighting an illness that has caused inflammation in her throat muscles, and has not been able to perform any of her scheduled shows in Las Vegas since her last show on July 29th. She has still not recovered from this condition.

"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support." said Celine

During this hiatus, Celine will cancel her shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace until further notice. She will also cancel her tour of Asia, previously scheduled for the fall of this year.

Celine and family have requested that their privacy be respected at this time.
